The Last Kingdom
The Last Kingdom is a British historical drama television series created and developed for television by Stephen Butchard, based on The Saxon Stories series of novels by Bernard Cornwell. The series premiered on 10 October 2015 on BBC Two. After co-producing the second series, Netflix acquired the series in 2018. The series concluded on 9 March 2022 after five series for a total of 46 episodes. A feature-length sequel that concluded the series story, titled Seven Kings Must Die, premiered on 14 April 2023 on Netflix.

- Though used as such by Leofric, the middle English word 'arseling' isn't actually derogatory in nature (or wasn't, back then). It means 'backwards/at the back'. Uhtred usually wears his sword 'arseling' for instance (on his back). This is however most likely where the British word 'arse' comes from.
- The family name of the author's birth father was Oughtred and he is descended from the Saxons who took the name Uhtred. They had owned Bebbanburg (now Bamburgh Castle in Northumberland) and held it through the Danish invasion and occupation of northern Britain
- The first season covers two books, The Last Kingdom and The Pale Horseman.
- In the novel, Uhtred is described as physically imposing and blonde.
- Uhtred is the name of an actual ancestor of the author from the late 9th and early 10th centuries.
