Pootie Tang is a 2001 American comedy film written and directed by Louis C.K.. adapted from a comedy sketch that first appeared on The Chris Rock Show. The character Pootie Tang is a satire of the stereotyped action heroes who appeared in old blaxploitation films. The title character's speech, which vaguely resembles pidgin, is mostly unintelligible to the audience, but the other characters in the film have no problem understanding him.

Trucky: You can't beat a ho with a belt... they like that shit.
  • Louis C.K.'s first draft of the script featured Pootie Tang as a gun-toting vigilante, with explicit violence, sex and swearing. Paramount told him to rewrite the script to get a PG-13 rating. Louis C.K. realized that he preferred Pootie as a positive hero for children, who respects women and only fights in self-defense.
  • According to Louis C.K., producer Ali LeRoi re-edited the film.
  • Trucky's narration was added against Louis C.K. wishes.
  • According to Louis C.K., Paramount President John Goldwyn yelled at him, accused him of wasting Paramount's money, and called the film "unreleasable."
  • J.D. Wiliiams and Reg E. Cathey (Froggy and Dirty Dee) both stared in the HBO hit series "The Wire"
