Jack Valentine: I don't think you fully appreciate the seriousness of your situation.
Yuri Orlov: (pauses, sighs) My family has disowned me... my wife and son have left me... my brother is dead. Trust me, I fully appreciate the seriousness of my situation.
  • When Yuri finds Vitaly in the Bolivian boarding house, the shape Vitaly has laid the coke in represents Ukraine, the brothers' country of birth.
  • No US studios would back the film. International finances were secured instead.
  • In the opening scene of the bullet being manufactured and then traveling along the conveyor and into its box. Just before the box is sealed, the box in front of it has: Odessa, Ukraine, stamped on it. Subsequently, this is where Yuri's family came from before settling in America.
  • Weston Cage:  Nicolas Cage's son is the young Mi-24 Hind helicopter mechanic Vladimir. In the movie, Cage Sr. speaks to the mechanic in Russian: "Son, get off there before you get hurt."
  • When Yuri first enters the lobby of the hotel in Monrovia there are two men in front of the television and making comments about it. They are watching O.J. Simpson's murder trial, which places the action somewhere in October of 1995.
