- Willem Dafoe and Temuera Morrison previously worked together in Speed 2: Cruise Control (1997).
- This is the third comic book adaptation for Temuera Morrison (after Green Lantern (2011) and Barb Wire (1996)), second comic book adaption for Nicole Kidman (after Batman Forever (1995)), Willem Dafoe (after the Sam Raimi Spider-Man films) Dolph Lundgren (after The Punisher (1989)), and Patrick Wilson (after Watchmen (2009)).
- Amber Heard declared in an interview on Good Morning America (1975) that she would read books between takes and that Jason Momoa would purposely rip out their pages so she would pay attention to him. Eventually, her reading material was kept in a special book bag made of "green screen" fabric, which allowed her to keep her books close even when filming special effects shots.
- DC Comics' Aquaman shares a few similarities to Marvel Studios' recent film Black Panther. Both films revolve around a tremendously advanced civilization (Atlantis in Aquaman and Wakanda in Black Panther) that is primarily hidden from average human society. Both civilizations decide to declare war on those in power as a result of oppression they have suffered at society's hands. Both the main protagonists and antagonists have legitimate claims to the throne of their respected civilization and are related (Arthur and Orm are half-brothers while T'Challa and Erik Killmonger are cousins).
However, in a parallel to Black Panther, which had the main hero (T'Challa) as king of Wakanda and the villain (Killmonger) as an outcast living a rough life, the roles of Aquaman's Hero and Main villain are switched with the Hero (Arthur Curry) living on the surface while the main villain (Ocean Master) rules the advanced civilization and intends to declare a violent war against Humanity.
Outside of story and plot, Aquaman and Black Panther have three major bad guy characters in each film. Aquaman has Ocean Master (Patrick Wilson), Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), and King Nereus (Dolph Lundgren) while Black Panther has Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan), Ulysses Klaue (Andy Serkis), and M'Baku (Winston Duke). Although, M'Baku (despite being a Black Panther villain in the comics) is later revealed to be a heroic character in the climatic fight of the film. - Dolph Lundgren is the first actor to star in both the Arrowverse and the DCEU.
