The Wire
The Wire is an American crime drama television series created and primarily written by American author and former police reporter David Simon for the cable network HBO. The series premiered on June 2, 2002, and ended on March 9, 2008, comprising 60 episodes over five seasons. The idea for the show started out as a police drama loosely based on the experiences of Simon's writing partner Ed Burns, a former homicide detective and public school teacher.

- Senator Clay Davis' catchprase "Sheeeeee-it" didn't appear in the script. It was added by Isiah Whitlock Jr..
- Michael Kostroff originally auditioned for the part of Frank Barlow before being cast as Maurice Levy.
- Sonja Sohn would gather relevant members of the cast to memorialise any character who was killed off. This began after she learned she was supposed to be killed off and fought for her character's life.
- Many of the cast were in another HBO drama Oz (1997). J.D. Williams, Seth Gilliam, Lance Reddick, and Reg E. Cathey were featured in very prominent roles, while a number of other notable stars of The Wire, including Wood Harris, Frankie Faison, John Doman, Clarke Peters, Domenick Lombardozzi, Michael Hyatt, Michael Potts and Method Man appeared in at least one episode.
- Lance Reddick auditioned for the roles of Bunk Moreland and Bubbles before being cast as Cedric Daniels.
