The Real O'Neals is an American single-camera sitcom that aired on ABC from March 2, 2016, to March 14, 2017. The series, based on an idea by Dan Savage (who also served as an executive producer), was picked up to series on May 7, 2015. The series was renewed for a second season on May 12, 2016, which premiered on October 11, 2016.

- This is the second show centering on the life of a gay leading character in which Bebe Wood appears as a series regular. The first show was 'The New Normal'.
- This show's premise is very loosely based on the childhood experiences of writer and "It Gets Better" campaign co-creator Dan Savage. Savage, who, like Kenny, grew up as a gay kid in a devoutly Catholic Irish-American family in which the father was a Chicago cop and the parents got divorced, is one of the show's executive producers.
- In February 2016, the conservative activist group the Catholic League ran an ad in the New York Times condemning ABC for planning to air The Real O'Neals on the basis of what the league's president, Bill Donohue, called Dan Savage's "maniacal hatred of Catholicism."
