Saira Banu (born 23 August 1944) is an Indian actress who mainly worked in Hindi films. Regarded as one of Indian cinema's finest actresses, she was among the most popular actresses of the 1960s and early 1970s. Banu received four Filmfare Awards nominations throughout her career.

  • Later in her career, she expressed regret over not getting the opportunity to star opposite Bollywood’s first superstar, Rajesh Khanna. She was offered the film Chhoti Bahu (1971) opposite Khanna and even shot for the film for 2 days before stepping down. The role was eventually played by Sharmila Tagore.
  • Like Saira, her mother was also a leading Bollywood actress of her time, having starred as the Empress Nur Jahan in Pukar (1939). Her ethereal beauty earned her the title of ‘Pari-Chehra’ (or fairy face).
  • She initially dreamt of becoming a singer and even took lessons from her classically trained grandmother.
  • Saira made her Bollywood debut by starring opposite Shammi Kapoor in the superhit film, Junglee (1961). She certainly made an impressive debut for she received her first ‘Best Actress’ nomination at the Filmfare Awards in 1962. Furthermore, she reunited with her first co-star only once again in Manmohan Desai’s Bluff Master (1963).
  • She was the 3rd highest-paid actress in the Hindi film industry from 1963 to 1969 and the 4th highest-paid actress from 1971 until 1976.

Saira Banu is known for her role in the TV series Oru Oorla Oru Rajakumari (2018) as Punitha.
