- According to Denis Leary Tommy's helmet has on it, along with all his backup tools, a miniature toy of Diego the Sabretooth Tiger from the Ice Age (2002) films. A role voiced by Leary.
- Denis Leary, Adam Ferrara, Diane Farr and Lenny Clarke all previously starred together as NYPD detectives in The Job (2001), a series created by both Leary and Peter Tolan, who both created and produce this series.
- Many of the extras are retired or active FDNY firemen who work on the show on their days off.
- Jack McGee, who plays Chief Jerry, was a real-life FDNY fireman before moving to Hollywood to become an actor.
- Both Daniel Sunjata (Franco), and Michael Lombardi (Probie), auditioned back-to-back, and both got their roles on the first audition.
