Peggy Dow (born Peggy Josephine Varnadow; March 18, 1928) is an American philanthropist and retired actress who had a brief career in Hollywood at Universal Studios starring in films during the Golden Age Era in the early 1950s. She is perhaps best known for her roles as Nurse Kelly in Harvey (1950) and Judy Greene in Bright Victory (1951).

  • In 1998 she received an honorary degree from the University of Oklahoma for her devotion to improving health care education and cultural events in Tulsa. She helped establish the Tulsa Library Trust and the Peggy V. Helmerich Distinguished Author Award given each year to writers on behalf of the Tulsa community.
  • Retired to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Had five sons -- Rik, Zak, Mat, Hans and Jon -- and twelve grandchildren.
  • Met her husband Walter Helmerich III while attending the film premiere of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953), then found out they had attended the same college years before.
  • Once lived in Hollywood at "The Studio Club" which was a home for aspiring actresses run by Mrs. Cecil B. DeMille.
  • Attended Northwestern State University in Louisiana.
