Mulan
Mulan is a 2020 American fantasy action drama film produced by Walt Disney Pictures. Directed by Niki Caro from a screenplay by Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Lauren Hynek, and Elizabeth Martin, it is a live-action adaptation of Disney's 1998 animated film Mulan, itself based on the Chinese folklore story Ballad of Mulan. The film stars Yifei Liu in the title role, alongside Donnie Yen, Tzi Ma, Jason Scott Lee, Yoson An, Ron Yuan, Gong Li, and Jet Li in supporting roles. It was also Cheng Pei-pei's final film before her death in 2024. In the film, Hua Mulan, the eldest daughter of an honored warrior, masquerades as a man to take her ailing father's place during a general conscription to counter the Rouran army in Imperial China.

- Liu Yifei overcame jet lag and showed up for the audition the day after her 14-hour flight from Beijing to Los Angeles. She performed four scenes for her audition, one of which was five pages long, and completed a full 90 minutes of weight training immediately following her two-hour audition.
- Actor and martial artist Jet Li, who plays the Emperor, admitted turning down the role because of the "script and pay." After his daughters reminded him that it was important for Disney to shine a light on Chinese culture, he backtracked and accepted the role.
- The film was shot under the pseudonym 'Phoenix'.
- Although the the Hua family sword design was changed for this movie, at the end when Mulan is gifted the new sword from The Emperor, the design is very similar and most likely based upon the sword of Fa Zhou (Mulan's Father) from the 1998 version.
- Christina Aguilera performs a new song for this film, titled "Loyal Brave True." She also performed the 'pop version' of "Reflection" in the credits of the original animated Mulan (1998).
