Megan Is Missing is a 2011 American found footage psychological horror film written, directed, edited, and co-produced by Michael Goi. The film revolves around the days leading up to the disappearance of Megan Stewart (Rachel Quinn), a popular high school student in North Hollywood who decided to meet up with a boy she was interacting with online, and the subsequent investigation launched by her best friend Amy Herman (Amber Perkins). Goi based the film on a series of real-life cases of child abduction. Marc Klaas, the founder of KlaasKids Foundation, notably endorsed the film.

Bill Herman: Well, I'll figure something special to get you for your birthday.
Amy Herman: Like, maybe, a video camera?
Bill Herman: (making balance-scale motions with his hands) Hmm, mortgage payment, video camera. What should I do?
Amy Herman: (giggles and taps his arm) It doesn't cost that much, jerk!
Bill Herman: Louise, your daughter just called me a jerk.
Louise Herman: She's right, you know?
Bill Herman: Women, always ganging up on defenseless men.
(Amy giggles and hugs him)
  • Throughout the film Megan, as well as Amy are seen video calling eachother. There is one scene where Amy appears to make video calls on her cell phone whilst outside. The viewer gets to see the calls from the recipients perspective and the quality of the picture remains high enough to look more than fine on most of today's wide-screen HD television sets. However, in a later scene, Amy's cell phone model is revealed to be a Motorola V3 Razr. It should be noted that these primitive early generation handsets only captured video in 4:3 ratio, and at a much lower quality then what we see in the movies "found footage".
  • In October 2011, the New Zealand Censorship Board (OFLC) banned Anchor Bay's release of this film by classifying it as 'Objectionable'. They claimed that it contained sexual violence and sexual conduct involving young people to such an extent and degree, and in such a manner that if it was released it would be 'injurious to the public good'. They went on to say that it relished in the spectacle of one girl's ordeal, including a three-minute rape scene. They also stated that it sexualised the lives of young teenage girls to a 'highly exploitative degree'.
  • Accepted into the 2010 Plus Camerimage Film Festival.
  • On January 14, 2007, Megan tells Josh that she is going to see "the new Matt Damon movie." The only movie that would still be running in an average movie theater at this time would have been The Good Shepard which was released on December 22nd, 2006. It's also worth noting that The Good Shepard is Rated R and two 14 year old girls, likely wouldn't have been allowed in the theater.
