Macbeth: Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow...
  • The plot differs in several aspects from the original source material: According to Shakespeare's play, Banquo would sit in Macbeth's seat during the banquet (aside the table in the movie). The Birnam Wood would "come to Dunsinane Hill" in the form of tree limbs carried by the English soldiers to cloak their numbers (in the form of ash particles in the movie). Macbeth himself would be beheaded by MacDuff in the end (opposite to the movie). There would be only the three witches without the child and the infant. Moreover, the movie subplot of Macbeth's dead child would be completely omitted.
  • This film marks the second time that Marion Cotillard starred opposite an actor who played Magneto in the X-Men franchise. Before Michael Fassbender in Macbeth, she starred opposite Ian McKellen in the short film Lady Grey London (2011). McKellen starred in A Performance of Macbeth (1979) opposite Judi Dench, who appeared in Nine (2009) with Marion Cotillard.
  • Michael Fassbender and Sean Harris have previously starred together in Wedding Belles (2007) and Prometheus (2012). After Macbeth, they also co-starred in Trespass Against Us (2016).
  • Roman Polanski's Macbeth (1971) was also filmed at Bamburgh.
  • Paddy Considine and Sean Harris have previously starred together in Red Riding: In the Year of Our Lord 1980 (2009).
