He retired as a college football announcer after the Fiesta Bowl, January 1999.

Jackson returned to the broadcast booth in the fall of 1999 and is still announcing college football for ABC. He broadcasts mostly west coast games in order to spend more time at home.

Attended Washington State Univesrity on the G.I. Bill where he got his start in broadcasting.

Has a star on the Cougar Walk of Fame in Pullman, Washington.

Inducted into the American Sportscasters Association Hall of Fame in 1994.
