High Fidelity is a 2000 romantic comedy-drama film directed by Stephen Frears, starring John Cusack, Jack Black, and Iben Hjejle. The film is based on the 1995 British novel of the same name by Nick Hornby, with the setting moved from London to Chicago and the protagonist's name changed. Hornby expressed surprise at how faithful the adaptation was, saying "at times, it appears to be a film in which John Cusack reads my book."

Louis: I don't have that record... I'll buy it for forty.
Rob: Sold.
Louis: Now why would you sell it to me and not to him?
Barry: Because you're not a geek, Louis.
Louis: You guys are snobs.
Dick: No, we're not.
Louis: Yeah, seriously, you're totally elitist. You feel like the unappreciated scholars, so you shit onto people who know lesser than you.
Rob, Barry, Dick: No!
Louis: Which is everybody...
Rob, Barry, Dick: Yeah...
Louis: That's so sad.
  • Rob's sticker-covered "little black book" is a Chandler's assignment notebook, a required item for every student at Evanston Township High School, John Cusack's alma mater.
  • This is the eighth film in which John Cusack and Joan Cusack have appeared together. The others are Class (1983), Sixteen Candles (1984), Grandview, U.S.A. (1984), Broadcast News (1987),Say Anything... (1989), Grosse Pointe Blank (1997) and Cradle Will Rock (1999)
  • The Marie DeSalle CD Rob pops in has the following tracks listed on it:
    • 1. Baby I Love Your Way

    • 2. Eartha Kitt Times Two (Patsy Cline Times Two in some versions)

    • 3. Ghostbusters (1984)

    • 4. Beat It

    • 5. Baby Got Back

    • 6. 911 is a Joke

    • 7. I Will Survive

    • 8. Mmm Bop

    • 9. My Heart Will Go On

    • 10. You Can't Have It

    • 11. The Time is Now

  • There are 5 records displayed on the wall in Rob's apartment, which can be seen briefly after Laura leaves at the beginning of the movie. We can assume that these are Rob's personal Top 5 Favorite Albums, although this is not one of the "top 5" topics discussed over the course of the film. These records (from left to right) are "Maggot Brain" by Funkadelic, "Tonight's the Night" by Neil Young, "Wild Honey" by The Beach Boys, "Goo" by Sonic Youth, and "Double Nickels on the Dime" by 'Minutemen'.
  • "Vintage Vinyl", another record store mentioned in the film, is a real store in Evanston, John Cusack's hometown.
