Appeared on the stage with Jack Durant as Mitchell & Durant.
Replaced comic actor Dub Taylor in the "Cannonball" role in Columbia westerns during the 1940s.
After his split from Durant, he found minor comedy parts in 40s and 50s films. His last feature film role was a bit part as a country neighbor to Loretta Lynn (played by Sissy Spacek) in Coal Miner's Daughter (1980).
He and Durant worked together providing comic relief in such Alice Faye musicals for Fox as She Learned About Sailors (1934), 365 Nights in Hollywood (1934) and Music Is Magic (1935). They eventually broke up to pursue separate careers.
Short, stocky, mischievous-looking American comic who first entered contests imitating Charles Chaplin. Broke into vaudeville with a comedy acrobatic troupe and later toured with the International Seven in Europe. Also performed stunts on horses in the circus.
His short-lived teaming with Jack Durant in vaudeville and Broadway led to minor success in films.
