Domenico Modugno (9 January 1928 – 6 August 1994) was an Italian singer, songwriter, actor, guitarist, and later in life, a member of the Italian Parliament. He is known for his 1958 international hit song "Nel blu dipinto di blu", for which he received Grammy Awards for Record and Song of the Year. He is considered the first Italian cantautore.

  • When his song "Volare" (Nel Blu Dipinto di Blu) hit the #1 slot on the US charts in 1958, it became the only Italian song ever to do so. It went on to win the very first "Record of the Year" and "Song of the Year" categories at the Grammys when the recording industry's awards show premiered that year. When English lyrics were later added, artists such as Dean Martin, Nelson Riddle, Bobby Rydell, Al Martino, The McGuire Sisters, Alan Dale, Barry White, Linda Ross, Jesse Belvin each released their own covers of the song.

Domenico Modugno is known for his role in the film Book Club: The Next Chapter (2023) as writer: "Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu (Volare)".

He is also known for his role in the film Somewhere in Queens (2022) as writer: "Volare".
