She was a writer, known for Estrela Nua (1984), Hour of the Star (1985) and O Corpo (1991). She was married to Maury Gurgel Valente. She died on December 9, 1977 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Born in Ukrain, she moved to Brazil at a very early age in 1922. She lived in Maceió, Alagoas and soon moved to Recife, Pernambuco - where she was raised until 1935. The Lispector family then moved to Rio de Janeiro and settled there. She lived in many places since then like London, England, Bern, Switzerland, Naples, Italy, Washington, D.C, U.S. and Belém, Brazil.
Has two older sisters named Tânia and Elisa.
Mother of two boys named Pedro (b.1948) and Paulo (b.1953).
Sometimes would write under the pseudonyms Helen Palmer and Tereza Quadros.
Clarice Lispector (December 10, 1920 – December 9, 1977) was a Brazilian writer acclaimed internationally for her innovative novels and short stories. Born to a Jewish family in Podolia in Western Ukraine, as an infant she moved to Brazil with her family, amidst the disasters engulfing her native land following the First World War.
Death Shortly after The Hour of the Star was published, Lispector was admitted to the hospital. She had inoperable ovarian cancer, though she was not told the diagnosis. She died on the eve of her 57th birthday and was buried on December 11, 1977, at the Jewish Cemetery of Caju, Rio de Janeiro.
