Cathy Moriarty Actress - Born 29 Nov 1960 The Bronx, New York, USA
Nickname The Bronx Blonde
Height 5' 9" (1.75 m)
Mini Bio (1) Cathy Moriarty was 17 years old when Martin Scorsese directed her in timeless black and white for his film, Raging Bull (1980); a masterpiece for her first role, the actress portrayed Vikki LaMotta, second wife of champion boxer Jake LaMotta (played by Robert De Niro). The performance was nominated an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Not too long after her second film, the poorly-received Neighbors (1981) (a comedy featuring John Belushi & Dan Aykroyd); the actress was in a near-fatal automobile accident, which resulted in a serious back injury. The subsequent physical & emotional rehabilitation, and the last minute cancellation of a 1985 film in which she was to co-star with Jack Nicholson (which was delayed 5 years and released as The Two Jakes (1990)) contributed to a six-year absence from the screen. The actress did not get within a mile radius of good part until she appeared in the soap opera-satire film, Soapdish (1991). The actress was wickedly funny as the voluptuous calculating Montana Moorehead. The actress went on to work prolifically in film and television, with her talent often overcompensating for the mediocre yet entertaining projects she was cast in. Noteworthy work includes Law & Order: Criminal Intent (2001), Tammy (2013), Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999) and Patti Cake$ (2017).

Once said Soapdish (1991) is her personal favorite of all her films.
Irish-American. Her parents are from County Kerry and County Cork.
In the 80s, while not making movies, she took a stake in a West Hollywood sports bar. Later, there would be restaurants and nightclubs. Her most successful venture was co-ownership of the Mulberry Street pizzeria chain that began with one branch in LA. Early on, she worked front of house. Her fiancé and business partner, pizza restaurant owner Richard Palmer, left her for Raquel Welch after he and Raquel met in October 1997 at Ago, the West Hollywood restaurant owned by Robert De Niro.
Her scenes in The Indian Runner (1991) were ultimately cut.

Has appeared in two films with Penelope Ann Miller: Kindergarten Cop (1990) and The Gun in Betty Lou's Handbag (1992).
Robert De Niro taught me how to listen, and how to be part of the conversation. It's not just about reading your lines and saying what's in the script, you have to understand your character, along with the other characters so that you can always respond.
Not the most difficult director that I've worked with, but the most determined. (On Donald Cammell)
Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese were so exceptionally loving to me and so concerned and so caring that I will always be grateful to them.
I prefer the hands-on work to all the black tie stuff.
Sometimes all it takes is someone else who truly believes in and sees the light shining within them to make a world of difference.
The truth is, ever since I was little, I've wanted to be an actor more than I ever wanted to be a movie star.
Bio At 18, Bronx-born blonde Cathy Moriarty had precisely no acting experience, which suited director Martin Scorsese just fine. Scorsese wanted a thoroughly natural, spontaneous actress to portray the bethumped Vickie La Motta, wife of volatile boxing champ Jake La Motta (Robert DeNiro), in the 1980 biopic Raging Bull. Moriarty won an Academy Award nomination for her fascinating portrayal of Vickie; alas, her next project was the much-maligned Neighbors (1981), which effectively killed her starring career before it had even begun. Her professional problems were exacerbated by a 1982 automobile accident. After back surgery and extensive emotional healing, Moriarty made a tentative film comeback in 1987. The film assignments began improving after 1990; she was terrific as a daytime-drama diva in Soapdish (1991), and even better as monotoned horror film star Ruth Corday in Matinee (1992). There have been a few setbacks during Moriarty's career renaissance (she was cut from the final print of Sean Penn's maiden directorial effect The Indian Runner), but there have been many more highs than lows, notably her winning the Cable ACE award for her work on a 1995 episode of Tales From the Crypt. Even if Cathy Moriarty never makes the uppermost ranks in stardom, she can always rely upon her trendy New York pizza parlor for a steady income.
