Her most notable film role is playing the author Harper Lee opposite Philip Seymour Hoffman‘s Oscar-winning performance as Truman Capote in the biographical drama, Capote (2005). Lee, who was Capote’s lifelong best friend, refused to meet Catherine for the role and did not cooperate with the filmmakers during the film’s production. However, once the film was released, Lee reached out to Keener saying that she enjoyed the film.
As of 2024, 3 of her films have been Academy Award nominees for ‘Best Picture’: Capote (2005), Captain Phillips (2013), and Get Out (2017).
