Adèle: He's not the problem. I'm missing something. I'm all messed up. I'm crazy.
  • There was controversy surrounding Abdellatif Kechiche and his work methods. It was revealed that he would do hundreds of takes for small scenes to achieve the desired realism of the story. Both actresses stated that the film looks so real because Kechiche pushed them to their breaking point, and that they were really struggling.
  • Belgian author Saskia De Coster and her partner have a cameo as one of the couples kissing during the Gay Pride scene.
  • Initially planned to be shot in two months, the film took nearly five-and-a-half months.
  • Adèle Exarchopoulos said that she was cast as the part of Adèle because of the way she ate.
  • In preparation for her role as Emma, Léa Seydoux attended painting and sculpture lessons. She also undertook extensive reading on arts and philosophy, and visited museums before filming began. To assist her in portraying the masculine characteristics of the arts student role, the director requested Seydoux to go for training sessions to tone up her physique and also study the films of Marlon Brando and James Dean to learn their traits.
