An American Carol (released as Big Fat Important Movie in other territories) is a 2008 American satirical comedy film directed by David Zucker and written by Zucker, Myrna Sokoloff and Lewis Friedman. Using the framework of Charles Dickens' 1843 novella A Christmas Carol, the film follows liberal filmmaker Michael Malone (a parody of Michael Moore) as he is visited by three spirits to teach him the importance of Independence Day. The film satirizes liberalism in the United States, with focus on Moore's documentaries. It stars Kevin Farley as Malone, alongside an ensemble supporting cast that includes Kelsey Grammer, Leslie Nielsen, Trace Adkins, Robert Davi, and Jon Voight.

(By order of the head terrorist, Aziz, a terrorist was attempting to go biking down a hill on a lightly smashed up bicycle with a large grenade like bomb tied to his back to blow up a group of insurgents. As he succeeds in going down the hill, he crashes his bicycle and flies through the air on to a car and nothing happens. Another terrorist goes down to inspect the error, realizing that he forgot to pull the pin while in the air, and in that case carelessly pulls it only to blow only him and himself up with the car)
Terrorist: We have at least destroyed an infidel's car.
Aziz: That was my car.
  • Both Wayne Knight and Frank Caliendo turned down the role of Michael Malone.
  • The woman who says "I gave up an ass lift for this?" is played by Kelsey Grammer's wife, Camille Grammer.
  • Jon Voight wrote much of his own lines.
  • The date on the headstone lists Michael Malone's birth date as April 20, 1952. April 20 is also the birth date of Adolf Hitler.
  • In accordance with the film's strong political theme, the official Internet site used a grassroots pre-publicity marketing strategy. Users on the site, dubbed "American Carolers", could make use of online tools to email friends about the film, network with other fans, etc. Points were given based on participation, and prizes (tickets, posters, etc) were awarded to the highest scorers. The names of the top 16 "Carolers" are on the DVD, in the Bonus Features under "Special Thanks".
