Crossing Over is a 2009 American crime drama film written and directed by Wayne Kramer. It follows illegal immigrants of different nationalities struggling to achieve legal status in Los Angeles: dealing with the border, document fraud and extortion, the asylum and green card process, work-site enforcement, naturalization, the office of counter-terrorism, and the clash of cultures. The film is based on Kramer's similarly titled 1995 short film. He produced the film alongside Frank Marshall.

Special Agent Howell: You see what's interesting Miss Shepard is we ran a check on your name. A Claire Shepard arrived on a B-2 visitors visa seven months ago and then just two days ago she has her status adjusted to an EB-1 green card for persons of extraordinary ability. According to The Internet Movie Database, the only Claire Shepard that matches your spelling, age and place of birth has two credits on little known Aussie TV shows. Walk on roles. She hasn't won any national or international awards
Special Agent Ludwig: Which is something the adjudicator who handled your case would have to have been aware of and yet he approved you for an EB-1. Miss Shepard we'd like you to tell us about your relationship with center adjudications officer Cole Frankel?
  • Sean Penn reportedly demanded that his small supporting role be cut from the picture after complaints about the "honor killing" subplot from Iranian-American groups. Although Penn subsequently claimed the decision was a creative one "of which he was aware," Harvey Weinstein claimed that Penn demanded the part be cut through his agent.
  • The F-word is used a total of 71 times throughout the movie - 39 of them in the store robbery scene alone.
  • When the immigration officers are interrogating Claire Shepard (Alice Eve), there is a brief mention to IMDb. In order to get an American green-card, Australian Claire affirms she's a famous TV star in her origin country; therefore, she could get a visa for outstanding accomplishment and become an American citizen. However, the agents later tell her they've searched her career profile and, "according to The Internet Movie Database, the only Claire Shepard that matches her spelling, age and place of birth has two credits on little known Aussie TV shows."
  • Director Wayne Kramer's original cut was 140 minutes long; but despite having the right to final cut, this films' producer agreed to be involved in editing the film down to two hours when Harvey Weinstein allegedly threatened to release the film straight to DVD, and bypass theatrical altogether. (Wayne Kramer had nothing to do with the re-editing)
