Beijing 2008: Games of the XXIX Olympiad
The 2008 Summer Olympics (2008年夏季奥运会), officially the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (第二十九届夏季奥林匹克运动会) and officially branded as Beijing 2008 (北京2008), were an international multisport event held from 8 to 24 August 2008, in Beijing, China. A total of 10,942 athletes from 204 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) competed in 28 sports and 302 events, one event more than those scheduled for the 2004 Summer Olympics. This was the first time China had hosted the Olympic Games, and the third time the Summer Olympic Games had been held in East Asia, following the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, and the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. These were also the second Summer Olympic Games to be held in a communist state, the first being the 1980 Summer Olympics in the Soviet Union (with venues in Russia, Ukraine, Byelorussia, and Estonia).

- In Beijing 2008: Games of the XXIX Olympiad (2008) American swimmer, Michael Phelps won a gold medal in all eight swimming events, he (and three other American men, were in relays) participated in five solo events and three team events. Michael Phelps's eight gold medals, in all eight events, surpassed Mark Spitz's record of seven, Mark Spitz was "7 for 7" in 1972's Olympic games, in Munich, Germany, 100%. Michael Phelps was "8 for 8 in 2008" = 100% In order, all 8 events & dates. First medal: (solo) Sunday, August 10th, 2008. 400 meter individual medley. Second medal: (team) Monday, August 11th, 2008. 4 by 100 freestyle relay. Third medal: (solo) Tuesday, August 12th, 2008. 200 meter freestyle race. Fourth medal: (solo) Wednesday, August 13th, 2008. 200 meter butterfly. Fifth medal: (team) Wednesday, August 13th, 2008. 4 by 200 freestyle relay. Sixth medal: (solo) Friday, August 15th, 2008. 200 individual medley race. Seventh medal: 100 meter butterfly (won by 0.01), Saturday, August 16th, 2008. Eighth medal: 4 by 100 medley relay, Sunday, August 17th, 2008.
