Velho Chico (English title: Old River) is a Brazilian telenovela produced and broadcast by Rede Globo that premiered on 14 March 2016, replacing A Regra do Jogo and ended on 30 September 2016, being followed by A Lei do Amor.

- Concicidentally, scenes strongly reminiscent of Domingos Montagner's demise were aired the day of his death as Selma Egrei's character Encarnação almost drowns to her death in the river. Monatgner's death itself mirrored his character's storyline, with the difference that Santo survived and was found alive in the river.
- Umberto Magnani had a stroke on his way to the PROJAC set and died aged 75 on April 25, 2016.
- Rodrigo Santoro first role in a Brazilian/Rede Globo telenovela after Mulheres Apaixonadas (2003).
- Ana Paula Arósio and Maria Fernanda Cândido declined the role of Iolanda before Carol Castro was cast.
- Star Domingos Montagner sadly drowned to his death at the San Francisco river after filming some scenes, on September 15, 2016. His co-star Camila Pitanga was reportedly saved by him and still attempted to grab him out of the river's strong current. She witnessed as Montagner was taken way by the water and disappeared. The actor was 54 years old.
