• In honoring the original Twister (1996) film, it was entirely shot on Kodak 35mm film on location in Oklahoma. [Lee Isaac] Chung said that a large part of the decision came from wanting to capture the natural, vibrant colors of the state.
• James Paxton, the son of Bill Paxton, appears during the rodeo scene as the angry hotel guest.
• The New York City scenes were actually shot in downtown Oklahoma City, which was dressed up to look like Manhattan. You can see the characters walk past Prairie Surf Studios, the studio house where many of the film's interior scenes were filmed.
• Darryl Cox, who plays the trailer salesperson who suggests using an aluminum trailer, is an Oklahoman actor who also appeared in the 1996 film as the Four Corners Mechanic at the gas station hit by the night time tornado (although his role is largely cut, he can still be seen a few quick shots).
• In a nod to the 1996 film Twister, Kate says the line "I'm not back!", a line said by Bill Paxton's character Bill, many times in the original.
