The Young and the Restless (often abbreviated as Y&R) is an American television soap opera created by William J. Bell and Lee Phillip Bell for CBS. The show is set in a fictionalized version of Genoa City, Wisconsin. First broadcast on March 26, 1973, The Young and the Restless was originally broadcast as half-hour episodes, five times a week. The show expanded to one-hour episodes on February 4, 1980. In 2006, the series began airing previous episodes weeknights on SOAPnet until 2013, when it moved to TVGN (now Pop). As of July 1, 2013, Pop still airs previous episodes on weeknights. The series is also syndicated internationally.

Phyllis Summers #1: (to Jack Abbott Jr) You've always thought of Victor Newman as Darth Vader, when did you decide to go to the Dark Side?
  • The china that we have seen Katherine Chancellor dringing out of for quite a number of years is a `Royal Albert` pattern titled "Heirloom".
  • One of the favorite plot devices is to send children away to boarding school or out of town to live with former characters only to have them return a short time later as teenagers. Among those involved in this type of plotting were Victoria Newman (age 10 returned a year later as an 18-year-old), Nick Newman, Billy Abbott, and Lily Winters.
  • When Jeanna Cooper (Katherine) decided to have a face life, rather then going out on leave and replacing her with a stand in, the producers wrote a story line in which Katherine had a face lift, complete with hospitalization and recovery.
  • Jeanne Cooper who plays Katherine Chancellor is the only member of the cast who has been with the show since it first premiered in 1973 - although she didn`t join in until 6 months after it premiered.
  • First US soap opera and "daytime" program to be shown on HDTV.
