Synopsis by Erin Demers

Greta (Lauren Cohan) takes a job as a nanny for a young boy in an English village. Upon her arrival, she discovers that the child is actually a life-size doll that the parents have been using as a coping mechanism since the death of their eight-year-old son two decades earlier. After the initial shock wears off, Greta decides to stay and work for the couple, but when she breaks a few strictly enforced rules of their "son's" care, she begins to suspect the toy may not be a doll at all. Directed by William Brent Bell. Rupert Evans, Jim Norton, Diana Hardcastle, Ben Robson, and James Russell co-star.

Malcolm: Okay, I see that you're... a writer from... Phoenix, Montana. You've come here to be inspired by the English countryside and to get away from the hustle and bustle of your life in the U.S. of A.
Greta Evans: No.
Malcolm: Close.
Greta Evans: Um... not at all. No.
  • Body Count: 4 - Mr. and Mrs. Heelshire, Emily Cribbs (the girl Brahms killed in his childhood), and Cole. The body count would be 5 if you count Greta's miscarried child. Brahms' fate is undetermined as an unidentified person is repairing the broken doll in the final scene of the film.
  • Lauren Cohen and Rupert Evans have both starred in horror comic book adaptations. Cohen in the television series, The Walking Dead (2010) & Evans in Hellboy (2004)
  • Lauren Cohan plays an American nanny traveling to the UK for her job as a babysitter. Ironically, while Cohan is an American born citizen she has a British accent after spending her adolescence in the UK which she hides in this film.
  • Jim Norton, the actor who plays Mr. Heelshire (The boys father) was the hilarious - and rather scary - "Bishop Brennan" In the British comedy series "Father Ted" In the late 1990's.
  • Although it's only hinted in the film, in earlier versions of the script (back when it was gonna be titled In a Dark Place or The Inhabitant and would make the movie to be much stronger R rated horror thriller) main reason for why Brahms' parents hired Greta was because he wanted to have a girl, and it was also hinted in the script that he was planning to eventually capture and rape Greta. For example, in the original scripted version of the scene where Greta gets out of the shower and realizes that all of her clothes has gone, she spends several minutes walking through the house completely nude (while Brahms watches her) until she covers herself with blanket and goes to the attic, only to end up being locked in it by accident, but also unknowingly saving herself from Brahms who was about to attack and rape her. The scene in the ending where he asks Greta to kiss him was also different, with him grabbing Greta and starting to kiss and fondling her until she stabs him with screwdriver. Script also ended with her killing Brahms and not like the movie where Brahms is still alive after Greta and Malcolm have escaped.
