[first lines] Anthony: [narrating] My name is Anthony Sadler. You're probably wondering why a brother like me is hanging out with these two crackers. But trust me, they're my two closest friends. Let me introduce you. This is Alek Skarlatos, the robot. He's a strong guy. He'll always have your back whenever you're in trouble. And this is Spencer Stone. You don't have to worry about him having your back in trouble because I'm sure he'll find it first. Seems like the three of us have been gettin' each other in trouble ever since middle school. But let me take you back and show you how it all began...
  • While in the medic class, Alex addresses the instructor, a female non-commissioned officer, as "ma'am." NCOs are addresses by their rank, e.g. "Sergeant," "Master Sergeant, etc." Outside of basic training (and then, only in the Marines), they are never addressed as "ma'am" or "sir." Alex has been in the service long enough to know this.
  • The first person to tackle the terrorist on the train was a Frenchman. He later turned down the L├ęgion d'honneur and asked to remain anonymous because he feared reprisals from other Islamists living in France.
  • Many of the professional actors in this film are better known as sitcom stars: Tony Hale and Judy Greer were both in Arrested Development, Jenna Fischer in The Office, Thomas Lennon in Reno 911!, and Jaleel White in Famity Matters.
  • A poster of Letters From Iwo Jima (2006), also directed by Clint Eastwood, appears in Spencer Stone's room during the childhood scenes.
  • An image of Clint Eastwood's face from Pale Rider (1985) appears on a character's t-shirt.
