Shakira entered a relationship with the Spanish football player Gerard Piqué, centre back for FC Barcelona and the Spanish national team in 2011. Piqué, who is exactly ten years her junior, first met Shakira in the spring of 2010, when Piqué appeared in the music video for Shakira's song "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)", the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Shakira gave birth to the couple's first son on 22 January 2013 in Barcelona, Spain, where the family had taken up residence. Shakira gave birth to their second son on 29 January 2015.

They met when the Spanish football selection went to South Africa and Shakira sang the Football championship hymn ("Waka-Waka") on July 2010. Then the rumours began, and according to her (who was dating De la Rua), it was a "Waka-Rumour".

Since she seaparated, the "waka-photo" was searched by everyone.

At their birthday, on February 2nd 2010, Gerard Piqué posted on twitter a photo of them together with friends. According to most of the tabloids it was the proof that they were dating. On February 22nd-23rd 2010 the tabloids published the first photos of the couple together, leaving a restaurant in Barcelona
