Saturday Night Live: 40th Anniversary Special
The Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary Special is a three-and-a-half-hour prime-time special that aired on , February 15, 2015, on NBC, celebrating Saturday Night Lives 40th year on the air, having premiered on October 11, 1975, under the original title NBC's Saturday Night. This special generated 23.1 million viewers, becoming NBC's most-watched prime-time, non-sports, entertainment telecast (excluding Super Bowl lead-outs) since the Friends series finale in 2004. It is the third such anniversary special to be broadcast, with celebratory episodes also held during the 15th and 25th seasons.

- Despite being the "Saturday Night Live" 40th Anniversary Special, this actually aired on a Sunday.
- Andy Samberg and Adam Sandler's joke that "we made a movie that bombed" refers to their 2012 comedy "That's My Boy," which notoriously did terrible at the box office.
- As of 2017, this special has only been shown one time on television, and has not been released in any other form of media. Clips on YouTube of the sketches have been released by the official SNL YouTube channel.
- Sketches were written specifically to combine characters and cast members of various SNL generations, such as "Celebrity Jeopardy" and the musical medley.
- Lorne Michaels requested that Dan Akyroyd reprise the "Bass-O-Matic" sketch, while Mike Myers and Dana Carvey requested that they be allowed to reprise "Wayne's World."
