Early during the first season, Roseanne frequently butted heads with the show's creator Matt Williams. Williams worked as the executive producer for the show's first thirteen episodes, but quit when Roseanne vehemently refused to say to her on-screen husband, "Well, you're my equal in bed, but that's it." Roseanne felt it was a line her character would never say.

Laurie would star as Carolyn Bigsby, who in the episode "Bang" goes on a murderous rampage because she learns that her husband, Harvey Bigsby, a grocery store manager, had an affair. She proceeds to hold his grocery store hostage until he comes out of his manager's office and sacrifices himself. Matt Roth plays Art Shepherd, a random grocery store customer who is being held hostage by Metcalfe, until he throws a grocery item at her head, knocking the gun out of her hand and enabling another customer to kill her. Lecy Goranson tweeted the following response to Barr's racist tweet: "Devastated by the cancellation of Roseanne," Goranson said in response to Roseanne Barr's posting. "But more devastating are the effects of hate speech and racism on individuals and society. Thank you for your support. And, in the spirit of our amazing crew, spread love not hate!"
When the Roseanne reboot premiered on ABC Tom Arnold; Roseanne's x-husband; sat down and reviewed the reboot for The Hollywood Reporter, slamming Barr for going from a "feminist-pacifist voice for the working folks" to a "far-right Trump-loving troll who's gone hard against liberals and Hillary supporters and even Me Too women. I can forgive Roseanne Conner voting for Trump in 2016"; he said. "I bet if you're a Midwest housewife, he might've come across on TV like he really had your back. But Roseanne Barr knew Donald Trump personally for 30 years and saw how he treated women. She even did business with him. I'm not surprised by anything Trump does, but Roseanne Barr made $200 million off Roseanne Conner, so I'm a little disappointed she doesn't have her back." Arnold also said he predicted that the reboot would come to an end the way it did; and reached out to Roseanne before the tweeting controversy even happened and warned her not to use twitter; that this could be dangerous to her.
Lee Garlington also played two different characters throughout Roseanne. As part of the couple coming to look at the washer and dryer while the dead salesman was at the Connor table and later as Karen, Darlene's new older friend who owned the bookstore.
Alicia Goranson's request to wear her hair shorter as Becky was originally turned down by the producers. Goranson took her case to Roseanne, who solved the issue by taking up a pair of scissors and hacking Goranson's hair short then and there.
Roseanne admitted later it was scary the way Tom Arnold had conned his way into her life and manuevered her into letting him become so powerful on her show, basically taking over things and becoming the new star.

Roseanne posted the following response after the outrage about her racist comments on Twitter:" I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste. I apologize. I am now leaving Twitter." In fact, Ms. Barr did not leave twitter; she posted several follow up comments after that.

Actor Michael Des Barres played one of Darlene's doctors (Dr. Phillips) in S9 E19 and Leon's boyfriend (Steven/Jerry) in season three. Also actor Rob Fuller has a few parts; as do a couple others including Ahmet Zappa.
Michael Fishman, who returned to the show as D.J. Conner, issued a lengthy statement in reaction to Roseanne's racist tweet attacking former Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett.
Here's a portion of Fishman's statement:
Today is one of the hardest in my life. I feel devastated, not for the end of the Roseanne show, but for all those who poured their hearts and souls into our jobs, and the audience that welcomed us into their homes. Our cast, crew, writers, and production staff strived for inclusiveness, with numerous storylines designed to reflect inclusiveness. The words of one person do not exemplify the thinking of all involved.
Well, Roseanne had a sharp rebuke for Fishman, claiming he threw her "under the bus."
i created the platform for that inclusivity and you know. You throw me under the bus. nice.
