Synopsis by Jason Buchanan

A devastating betrayal sends James Bond from Australia to Italy and South America on a mission of vengeance that pits the suave super-spy against a powerful businessman with diabolical intentions. Betrayed by Vesper, 007 (Daniel Craig) suppresses the urge to make his latest mission personal as he teams with M (Judi Dench) to interrogate Mr. White (Jesper Christensen). It soon becomes apparent that the organization behind the blackmailing of Vesper is more powerful than Bond and M had previously anticipated, and after discovering forensic evidence that links an MI6 traitor to a bank in Haiti, Bond immediately sets out to gather more intelligence. Once in Haiti, a case of mistaken identity leads Bond into the company of the ravishing Camille (Olga Kurylenko), a dangerous beauty with her own vendetta. It's Camille who leads Bond to a ruthless businessman named Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric), who is soon revealed to be the mastermind of a powerful but clandestine organization. Greene is conspiring to corner the market on one of the world's most precious natural resources, and in order to make that happen he has forged a deal with an exiled general named Medrano (Joaquin Cosio). By enlisting the aid of his many associates and using his vast resources to force contacts within the CIA and the British government into bending to his will, Greene plans to overthrow the current regime of a Latin American country and hand control over to General Medrano in exchange for a parcel of land that appears barren on the surface, but actually houses a natural resource that will make Greene the most powerful man on the planet. But Bond's mission to uncover the culprit who blackmailed Vesper and prevent Dominic Greene from exerting his will on the entire world won't be easy, because now everyone from the CIA to the terrorists and even M are out to get him.

Dominic Greene: (Speaks into the earpiece) This is the world's most precious resource, we need to control as much of it as we can.
  • The media in 2008 reported that Gemma Arterton once had six fingers on each hand. This is a condition known as polydactyly. She called it her "little oddity". Bond villains have long been famous for having some kind of physiological dysfunction. To date, no Bond movie villain characters have had this trait, though Dr. No (1962) had metal hands, Carl Stromberg in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) had webbed-hands and there was also Mr. Goldfinger (1964). Lee Fu-Chu in the Bond novel "Brokenclaw" was born with his left hand's thumb on the opposite side of his palm whilst The Sheik villain in the Eurospy movie Agent 505 - Todesfalle Beirut (1966) has four fingers.
  • This film marks the first time since You Only Live Twice (1967) that Bond does not introduce himself with the catchphrase "Bond, James Bond." The line was shot for several different scenes but was completely cut out as Forster and the producers found it unnecessary. (The Bond films From Russia with Love (1963), and Thunderball (1965) also do not use the line) The other staple Bond line stating a "vodka martini, shaken not stirred" does not appear in this movie either.
  • This is the first ever James Bond movie in the series not to have a montage of scenes in one of the movie posters for its release. Painted artwork montages in some posters were a staple of the series up until Licence to Kill (1989) from which after photo montages took over for some posters.
  • Second consecutive James Bond movie ending with Bond alone, without a leading Bond Girl with him.
  • Reportedly, Daniel Craig was paid (UK) £4.5 million for the movie, more than twice as much as the (UK) £2 million he received for Casino Royale (2006).
