Qaboos bin Said Al Said (Arabic: قابوس بن سعيد ال سعيد, 18 November 1940 – 10 January 2020) was the Sultan of Oman since ousting his father, Said bin Taimur, in the 1970 Omani coup d'état. The country was re-named Oman, and his leadership caused a rise in living standards and development in the country. He was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Oman since 1972. A fourteenth-generation descendant of the founder of the House of Al Said, he was the longest-serving leader in the Middle East and Arab world.
