Polly Holliday
Polly Dean Holliday (born July 2, 1937) is a retired American actress who has appeared on stage, television and in film. She is best known for her portrayal of sassy waitress Florence Jean "Flo" Castleberry on the 1970s sitcom Alice, which she reprised in its short-lived spin-off, Flo. Her character's catchphrase of "Kiss my grits!" remains perhaps the most memorable line associated with the series Alice.

- Close friends with actor Dustin Hoffman. They worked together in _All The President`s Men (1976)_ and Hoffman tried to get her cast as a producer in Tootsie (1982).
- Was nominated for Broadway`s 1990 Tony Award as Best Actress (Featured Role - Play) for playing Big Mama in a revival of Tennessee Williams` "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof."
- Polly`s huge, award-winning success as Flo on "Alice" (1976) did not endear her to the titular star of the show, Linda Lavin, who was increasingly irritated at having the attention and the show stolen from under her. It was reportedly due to this friction that Polly was encouraged to leave for her own spin-off series "Flo" (1980), which did not succeed. "Alice" (1976) remained a hit for many years after.
