  • In 2004 the children's TV series "Sesame Street" (1969) introduced the puppet "Dr. Feel" in his honor.
  • With the start of his TV show "Dr. Phil" (2002), he and his wife and son, Robin and Jordan, moved to Beverly Hills, purchasing a $7 million mansion. His son Jay is in law school at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.
  • Graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School in Overland Park, Kansas.
  • In 1968 was a middle linebacker on the University of Tulsa football team where he received a scholarship. On November 23rd of that year this team was defeated by the University of Houston 100-6 in one of the most lopsided college games in history.
