Synopsis by Jack Rodgers
A high schooler named Tripp (Lucas Till) befriends an otherworldly creature, which is able to crawl inside his pickup truck and act as a supercharged engine. Soon enough, Tripp and the monster work together to stop an oil company from wreaking havoc on their town. Jane Levy, Rob Lowe, Amy Ryan, Danny Glover, and Barry Pepper co-star. Looking for any way to get away from the life and town he was born into, Tripp (Lucas Till), a high school senior, builds a Monster Truck from bits and pieces of scrapped cars. - When Viacom took a major loss in its profit statement for the 3rd quarter of 2016, it blamed unspecified failures in its motion picture distribution section; reporters pieced together some details that were shared (or not shared) by the company and discovered that this film was the main one being blamed for the massive deficit in this time period.
- Movie is filmed in British Columbia but according to the license plates seen in the trailers, it's story is set in North Dakota.
- Originally produced by Nickelodeon Movies, but the studio decided to opted out of the project during post production. On November 17, 2016, it was announced that Nickelodeon was back in co-producing the film as the logo was seen in the 2nd trailer.
- Was originally set for release on May 29th, 2015 but was moved to December 25th, 2015 then delayed the Christmas Day 2015 release date to March 18th, 2016 then was once again pushed to January 13th, 2017 to complete post production
- Chris Wedge's first live action film.
