Spooks (known as MI-5 in some countries) is a British television spy drama series that originally aired on BBC One from 13 May 2002 to 23 October 2011, consisting of 10 series. The title is a popular colloquialism for spies, and the series follows the work of a group of MI5 officers based at the service's Thames House headquarters, in a highly secure suite of offices known as The Grid. It is notable for various stylistic touches, and its use of popular guest actors. In the United States, the show is broadcast under the title MI-5. In Canada, the programme originally aired as MI-5 but now airs on BBC Canada as Spooks.

Danny Hunter: (decides to sacrifice himself) You will never win. Acts of Hate often bring forth Acts of Love and so you will never win. In another World, you might be tied to this chair and I might be holding the gun. So I suppose you've been unlucky. But you will never win.
Al Qaeda Man: (infuriated, embarrassed) I'm... unlucky?
Fiona Carter: Danny, don't!
Danny Hunter: If I weren't tied to this chair, I would be up in your face, you Death-Worshipping Fascist!
Al Qaeda Man: And you know what my answer would be.
(Shoots Danny in the back of the head)
  • The scene in episode 1 ("Thou Shalt Not Kill") where the cat escapes from the house was based on a real MI5 training exercise, as was the scene in series 2 episode 1 ("Legitimate Targets") where an old school friend almost identified Zoe whilst she was on an op.
  • During production all files relating to spooks were labeled "Prawn" to "throw people off the scent".
  • The lamp shades hanging from the ceiling of the Grid in season 1 are actually bins from Ikea turned upside down.
  • For much of the first series Matthew Macfadyen's character (Tom Quinn) wears dark glasses, this was actually due to a burst blood vessel sometimes just visible.
  • None of the episodes had any on-screen credits when first broadcast. That's why everyone is (or should be) listed as (uncredited).
