While the two may have a significant age gap of 11 years, they quickly make their relationship very serious. After reports of an engagement between Carey and Nick Cannon surface, the pop diva marries the 27-year-old actor in an impromptu ceremony at her Bahamian estate. "We really do feel we are soulmates," Carey tells PEOPLE of Cannon – who she met in 2005. "I never felt a love like this was in the cards for me." Cannon adds, "She is beautiful on the outside and 10 times as beautiful on the inside."

2010: After months of speculation, Carey, 41, confirms that she is pregnant. "It's been a long journey," the singer reveals on the Today show. "It's been tough because I've been trying to hold on to a shred of privacy." An "emotional" Cannon echoes his wife's excitement, adding, "The greatest gift on earth is a child," before revealing that they're having twins.

2011: Carey and Cannon celebrate their third wedding anniversary with the birth of their daughter Monroe and son Moroccan Scott Cannon. "My wife just gave me the most incredible anniversary gift ever in life! I won't ever be able to top this!" the new father Tweeted of his twins' arrival.

Nick Cannon filed divorce papers on Dec. 12, 2014 according to TMZ, noting that Carey had been working on a property settlement for the couple in advance of her husband making the first step in court.
