One Direction’s singer Louis Tomlinson and student Eleanor Calder met some time in 2011, through mutual friends. One of their mutual friends is Harry Styles, Louis’ bandmate who have known Eleanor for years. By July 2011, Tomlinson was already friends with Calder. Tomlinson and Calder were first seen together at Niall Horan’s birthday party, on September 14, 2011. Louis confirmed they were together in October 2011. However, the couple consider November 17, 2011, as their anniversary since this is the day they officially started dating.

After almost 4 years together, the couple split up in early February 2015. Their break-up was confirmed on March 22, 2015, after pictures of Louis kissing Lucy Julian in Thailand surfaced. Quickly after his break-up from Eleanor, Louis began a casual relationship with American stylish Briana Jungwirth. Louis confirmed on August 4, 2016, that Briana was pregnant.

With the release of One Direction’s fifth studio album, Made In The AM, in November 13, 2015, fans began speculating that one of the songs — called “Love You Goodbye” — might be about Eleanor, since the song was written by Louis and is a sad break-up song. Even though it was never confirmed by Tomlinson that the song is about Calder, Tomlinson has gives its hints that it is probably about her by saying that “there’s a song about losing someone and it’s not about Zayn [who left One Direction in 2015].”

Briana Jungwirth gave birth to her son with Louis, named Freddie Reign Tomlinson, on January 21, 2016. Louis dated actress Danielle Campbell until late December 2016.

After Tomlinson’s mother Johannah passed away on December 7, 2016, and quickly after his split from Danielle, Tomlinson rekindled his romance with his then ex-girlfriend Eleanor Calder in January 2017.

On March 3, 2017, during an incident at LAX Airport, Tomlinson got arrested after defending Eleanor from being attacked by 3 girls who claimed to be his fans and an paparazzi who were taking pictures of Calder without her consense. On March 21, 2017, the couple were spotted together again at James Arthur’s concert in London.

On December 1, 2017, Louis released a song called “Miss You” that he confirmed to be about Eleanor: “I wrote this song about a time in my life when I was going out partying every night. In hindsight throughout that time I was pretty numb and just going through the motions. Deep down it was always in the back of my mind that what I really missed was the girl that I loved.”
