Tweed has lived with Simmons since 1983, who explained in a 2011 interview "I need Shannon in my life. Not just because of love and family but because she holds me accountable." The couple have two children, Nicholas Simmons (born January 22, 1989) and Sophie Alexandra Simmons (born July 7, 1992).

The marriage of Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed proves it's never too late to tie the knot. Shannon and Gene made their 28-year relationship official in October 2011. Yet there are red flags in their relationship -- primarily Gene's reported continued promiscuity.

Shannon and Gene first met one another on August 25, 1983 at the Playboy Mansion's Midsummer Night's Dream party.

Gene proposed to Shannon in Belize in July 2011 with a 24-carat engagement ring. The moment was filmed for their A&E reality television show.

Shannon and Gene were married on October 1, 2011 in an outdoor evening ceremony at the Beverly Hills Hotel. They wrote their own vows, their daughter Sophie was the maid of honor, and they danced their first dance to Etta James' "At Last."

There were 400 guests at their wedding. Their son Nick did his part in the wedding planning by creating the illustration for their wedding invitation.
