• This is the second series where the title character, played by Hugh Laurie, is a practicing physician that takes extremely complicated cases within his field of practice. Both shows include his character's struggle with his inner demons as a primary aspect of the story line. The other show was House M.D. (2004).
• In episode 3 Hiring it Done when Eldon is talking to his daughter Nicole about the drugs found in her art supply kit, on the wall to the left of them are wooden blocks in the shape of the letters S and O which are the real life initials of the actress that plays Nicole.
• The second TV show, after "House," in which Hugh Laurie stars as a troubled doctor whose last name is a common noun as well as the one-word title of the show. (Although in the first case the noun is a concrete object while in the other it is an abstract quality.) Also, Laurie uses an American accent in both series.
