Alfonso Cuarón Orozco (pronunciation ; born 28 November 1961) is a Mexican film director, screenwriter, producer, and editor. He is best known for his dramas Y Tu Mamá También (2001) and Roma (2018), the fantasy film Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004), and the science fiction thrillers Children of Men (2006) and Gravity (2013). Cuarón is the first Latin American director to win the Academy Award for Best Director.
