  • First Chilean movie to win an Academy Award for Best Foreign Film.
  • The star, real transgender woman Daniela Vega, was hired as a script consultant. Even though she had no prior experience as an actress, after some time working with her, director Sebastián Lelio offered the lead role, which she accepted.
  • Daniela Vega's real voice is heard in the film, singing the opera pieces. She is a Mezzo-Soprano.
  • Chile becomes only the second Latin American country to win the Oscar in this category. Argentina with two winnings (The Official Story (1985) and The Secret in Their Eyes (2009)) is the first.
  • Daniela Vega became the first openly transgender person to ever present at the Oscars when she introduced Sufjan Stevens's performance of "Mystery of Love" from Call Me by Your Name (2017) (Dolby Theatre Los Angeles / 4 March 2018).
